“You can’t go home again.” That famous quote by Thomas Wolfe is one that has long stuck with me. In part because I also feel how much nostalgia plays a part in my life.
Whether it’s revisiting old games that meant a lot to me growing up (whether the old NES games, Myst, or any number of other games), movies, or old locations, there’s a strange fulfillment in going to the familiar.
But as I get older, that joy of nostalgia and the memories of bygone days is getting replaced at the joy of sharing things with my little one.
As much as I love the things I grew up on, there’s a better day coming, and I hope for it to arrive soon. Nostalgia over time loses its luster, as the vanity and corruption of time wears away at things. Not to mention that with the magic of childhood gone, the plain reality often gives way to better realities.
