Musing 123

Today’s scripture reading was Jeremiah 5. And I am so struck by how often I read this prophet and feel like he could be commenting on America today.

We have had a wealth of knowledge of Scripture, generations of faithful (and to be fair, also faithless) teaching, a mind-boggling wealth of knowledge about the history, accuracy, and transmission of the Scriptures to us attesting to the faithfulness of its message.

And yet, for a lot of reasons, we now live in a generation where poor and rich alike either do not know the law and precepts of the Lord, or when they do know them, give lip service while their hearts are far from the Lord.

May we pray for God to pour out His undeserved grace and mercy on us who have spit on His face as response to His bountiful blessing to us.
