Death is ever nearer, unless Jesus returns.

Attending a funeral for a friend’s mother made it hit home a bit more today. While we often go about in life giving little thought to the end of our earthly work, the reality is that each day brings us closer to that day when the Lord calls us home.

In our modern age, isolated as we are from death, we do not allow ourselves to consider eternity. Instead, we drown it out with story, entertainment, busyness.

But death has a way of cutting through that, especially if we are shocked by it. As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes, everything is vanity.

Eternal matters last. Souls matter. Make use of the busyness, entertainments and distractions of the era to in turn build relationships and bring the gospel to people.
