Perhaps it is the part of me influenced by John Piper, but I love the first 2 questions of the Geneva Catechism
- What is the chief end of human life? To know God.
- Why do you say that? Because He created us and placed us in this world to be glorified in us. And it is indeed right that our life, of which He Himself is the beginning, should be devoted to His glory
While the Westminster version of question 1 is a clearly developed version of these 2 questions, I LOVE how the Genevan catechism follows the thought of question 1.
The WC is condensed (and in the case of the longer catechism, a very much needed abridgement), this question really brings home that the point of life is to be oriented around God’s glory.
