I think I’ve mentioned before that since becoming a dad, I’ve wrestled MUCH more with anxiety, especially since I work in tech.
So what do I do to handle that stress?
First, I am in constant prayer for God’s provision. I recognize that my gifts and income ultimately come from God’s providence. While that provision is made through ordinary providences (ie a paycheck from a job I work with the talents I’ve been given), it is still God’s provision.
Second, I work towards having the rainy day provisions stored up, but without looking to those for my security. This is a difficult thing. On the one hand, it is clear God calls us to be prepared for circumstances, to build inheritances for children. On the other, it is so easy to fall into the trap of “see soul, by your strength you’ve ensured your safety. You’ve got the job, the house, the bank account. Now enjoy life.”
Third, I make sure to de-stress when I can. I cuddle my baby, I read, I play games, all sorts of stress relief by enjoying the good things God has provided.
Fourth, and most importantly, I put my trust in God’s goodness, such that even if hard times come, and the things I fear come to pass I remember that God is still on the throne and that He is working it for my good. That doesn’t mean the things I’m going through are easy, but it’s a comfort to my heart to recognize that there is One who is in control.
